TimeWise for Macintosh ]
Upgrade to the latest TimeWise.
TimeWise for Windows 7 (for Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP, Vista)
If you are using TimeWise version 6, you'll benefit by upgrading to TimeWise
7 (unless you are using Windows 3.x, in which case you must stay with version
6).
Upgrading is easy... unlike many software upgrades these days, TimeWise for
Windows:
- takes less hard drive space
- runs faster
- doesn't mess with your Windows 95/98/NT/2000/ME/XP registry
- doesn't damage your existing data in any way
What's New in TimeWise 7 (list includes everything up to release 7F2):
OVERALL
- 32-bit version code works better on all Windows platforms, including Windows
XP and Vista
- Improved vocabulary, to make TimeWise easier for new users to learn
- Cleverer handling of two-digit date fields
- Regions have been added or enhanced for: Australia, Belgium, Botswana, Colombia,
France, Guam, Hong Kong, Ireland, Namibia, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal,
and the United Kingdom.
- There is now a multiple currency mode that can be enabled by special request
for registered users with offices in more than one country... contact support@timewise.net
if you are interested.
- TimeWise is now a true 32-bit program, resulting in many features working
much faster than before.
- Many interface elements have been improved in order to make TimeWise easier
to use, most notably... You can now close TimeWise by clicking the Close box
in the upper right corner of the main window. Other Close boxes have been
enabled in appropriate places in TimeWise as well.
THE FILE MENU
- New Session command is now the Change User command. Terminated employees
do not appear in the list, so you can shorten the list of names offered by
using the new Terminated field in the employee profile.
- Diary/Calendar command is now the Calendar/Diary command (since more people
use it as a Calendar than a Diary).
THE JOBS MENU
- New Job or Estimate command now displays the next job number in the command
name (unless manual job numbering has been engaged in Preferences | Jobs |
Job Numbering).
- Jobs now have job titles up to 118 characters long.
- Job Number List is now "Jobs In Progress (by job number)" to clarify that
only jobs in progress have ever appeared on this list.

ever appeared on this list.
- Completed Jobs List is now "Completed Jobs List (not invoiced)" to clarify
that only not yet invoiced jobs have ever appeared on this list.
- Retainers List is now "Recurring Jobs In Progress", as retainers are now
called recurring jobs throughout TimeWise. Recurring jobs are now offered
when completing or invoicing a job marked as a Recurring job, even when more
than one job is in progress for that client, and they now inherit the description
and notes from the job being closed.
- Memorized Job Lists are now "My Job Lists". Keyword List is now "Search
For Jobs (by keyword)".
THE ACTIONS MENU
- TimeWise now includes a robust system allowing time charge and item charge
categories that have the same Sort number to be considered as "linked" categories.
When time charge is charged to a linked category, TimeWise immediately prompts
you for an item charge of the same category. Similar linkage occurs when deleting
a linked charge.
- Time charges (including timer charges) than run past midnight are now handled
better for time calculation and for payroll reports.
- Time charges now have descriptions up to 70 characters long.
- Time charges now can be up to 13 hours in duration, can be 10 times as large
in value as they were before, and are no longer ever rounded off.
- Item Charge is now "Item Charge/Order" to clarify that this is also the
feature used to create purchase orders and insertion orders.
- View menu on the Actions menu is now "Job Reports", for clarity.
- Update Ticket is now "Job Ticket Properties".
- Retainer/Tab jobs are now called Recurring jobs.
- Quotations are now known as Quotes.
- Status Reports now include an option to include or not include time charge
detail, as well as other refinements.
- Most of the commands on the Actions menu now include the current job number
(now called the "selected job number") to remind you of it.
- In is now "In (undelegated)" and Out is now "Out (delegated)", for clarity.
- Nuke is now called Trash, and all nuked jobs are referred to as trashed
jobs.
THE CLIENTS MENU
- The profile for the client of the selected job and the profile for the client
most recently added are now more conveniently available through specific commands
on the Clients menu.
- Client profiles can now have any mix of numerals or letters in the Client
ID.
- Each client profile now includes the Rates button which give you the option
to set up client-specific pricing for time and item categories... you can
specify up to 15 time categories and 41 item categories with special pricing.
- Each client profile now includes a robust system allowing an unlimited number
of contacts for each client, with a full profile of information on each contact,
and larger fields for telephone numbers and other information.
- The Client Profile Report now includes details on the client-specific rates,
and all other client-specific pricing rules.
- The Accounting ID field has been expanded to 20 characters.
THE VENDORS MENU
- The profile for the vendor most recently used and the profile for the vendor
most recently added are now more conveniently available through specific commands
on the Vendors menu. Each vendor profile now includes a robust system allowing
an unlimited number of contacts for each vendor, with a full profile of information
on each contact, and larger fields for telephone numbers and other information.
THE REPORTS MENU
Many reports have been generally improved and enhanced. We suggest you simply
examine your favorites and notice the improvements: the most popular improvements
are detailed below...
- The Employee Activity Report now includes a no detail option, and has the
option to save to file as a comma-delimited file.
- The Payroll Report has many enhancements, including a summary option, a
privacy option (which suppresses personal information about employees), a
summary list of people in the report, a breakout of miscellaneous time activity
for each person, and other enhancements.
- There are several new reports, including the "Charge Category By Job Report"
and the "Production Efficiency Report".
- Many reports have been renamed and/or the order of reports on the menu for
clarity: Invoice Summary Report is now the "Invoice and Sales Tax Report".
Client Sales Report is now the "Sales Report (by client)". Work In Progress
Report is now the "Work in Process Report".
THE TOOLS MENU
- List Time Entries is now the "Time Charge Report". The report now includes
an option to only show running timer charges, for those installations that
use timer charges and wish to know what is currently going on. The date range
of the report now defaults to a week range.
- First Aid is cleverer and faster than ever, to help you stay productive.
If you cannot run First Aid because there are other users on TimeWise, TimeWise
now tells you how many users are logged in. With the new Current Users Report,
it is much easier to get everyone off TimeWise to perform First Aid, or other
maintenance activities.
- We have added the Current Users report, which shows you who is using TimeWise
and any given moment on a network.
THE SETUP MENU
- Tasks is now Time Categories, and the term task has been consistently changed
to "time" throughout TimeWise. Time categories Sort field has been expanded
to six characters.
- Items in now "Item Categories (and Groups)". Items now have longer descriptions
and an alternate description field. Item categories Sort field has been expanded
to six characters.
- Employees: The list of security rights in each user's employee profile has
been enhanced to give you more control over who can do what. Access rights
are now known as User Levels renamed Power User, Standard User and Restricted
User, to better conform with Windows security standards. Rights and Specific
Rights are now called Permissions, for the same reason.

field, a Terminated date field, an optional Overtime Pay Field, and the First
Name can now be up to 15 characters long, and Salary and Wage fields have
been expanded as well.
- Employee efficiency factors can now be assigned to any time category (not
just those numbered 01 to 25 in each department as used to be the case). As
well, you can specify up to 4 client-specific efficiency factors in each client
profile, and then link to those variables rather than fixed amount as the
efficiency factor for a given time category for a particular employee.
- There is now a global preference allowing you to control whether employee
birthday warnings appear or not.
- Next Number is now "Next Job Number", for clarity.
- Unlock is now "Unlock Licenses", for clarity.
THE HELP MENU
The Help menu now includes a link to the TimeWise Web site, and a direct link
to e-mail TimeWise support.
BUGS / ERROR MESSAGES
- Many small bugs have been fixed throughout the program.
- Many error messages have been reworded in clearer language, to help you
get back to work more quickly.
- Some error messages that used to occur can no longer occur, as they are
automatically handled by TimeWise, thus reducing the likelihood of an interruption
